The End of Eleven [Doctor Who]

It took me awhile to get use to Matt Smith as The Doctor. At first I was really put off by the largeness of his facial features until I eventually found them adorable and endearing. Then I was constantly trying to look around River Song’s scene stealing and fangirling to  figure out what he was up to. Finally, I settled in on Eleven being charming and fun and authoritative and just an enjoyable character. I felt like this season was finally about Eleven, not Amy, Rory, or River so it’s both good and bad for him to exit on this leg of

Happy Things!

This week was a tough one. Not because I’m a mess but because the world around me was a mess. But I’m going to try to focus on those bright spots that crept in… 1. The Vampire Diaries returned. Oh, but Vampire Diaries didn’t just return to my TV, no, it brought with it a preview for The Originals. Do you see what I see? It’s filled with Black and Brown people! They’re good and bad and just character. It’s beautiful and refreshing. 2. I hung some curtains. It doesn’t sound huge, but it was an epic achievement for a Sunday morning– before double digits. Cake for One, Please! [Funfetti Mug-Cake]

I’m obsessed with the Bailey’s mug cake I discovered on Kirbie’s Cravings. Unfortunately there’s a weird part of me that feels I shouldn’t have both cake AND liquor for dinner on weekdays. But I really wanted a cake tonight. Today was a damn good day for me. I totally killed it today, and dammit I earned a cake for dinner! We’ve had a partial box of Pillsbury Funfetti mix cake mix in the pantry for a while and I was always scared to use it because I couldn’t remember if we halved the the recipe or thirded it… On a whim I thought, “Maybe I have

I miss my teeth…

On Tuesday I had two teeth forcefully removed from my face. It was horrible. I paid a man money to stab me with needles and then strong-arm permanent fixtures from my mouth. It “needed” to be done. They were wisdom teeth and this was “the easy way,” because they weren’t impacted. If you’re having teeth pulled and they tell you that you’ll feel “pressure,” know they’re lying. You might not feel pain but “pressure” is an outright lie. A hug is pressure. A poke is pressure. What you will feel is someone elbow-deep in your face with various tools and the strength of a grown

Blerd History Month: Static Shock

Static Shock was one of first black heroes I was aware of. Back when I was in primary school Static Shock was one of many after school cartoons to choose from. I never chose it though. In my defense this was the era of Animanics and Freakazoid. A bit about Static Shock: Static Shock is a DC Comics character created by Dwayne McDuffie, Robert L. Washington III, and John Paul Leon in 1993. Static’s alter ego, or real name, is Virgil Ovid Hawkins and he’s usually a good guy on a team of youths. He recently made his debut as a powered up character on
